Prof Joseph Ahaneku has assumed office as Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University




The newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof Joseph Ahaneku has assumed office.



Ahaneku assumed office Tuesday  3rd June 2013 after the out-gone Vice Chancellor, Prof Boniface Egbgoka officially handed over to him.

The handover ceremony, which held in the office of the Vice Chancellor of the institution, though a brief one, took place amidst cheers from members of the university community, who have so far shown support to the new Vice Chancellor.

A press release issued by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Emma Ojukwu during the handover ceremony stated that Ahaneku would be the 5th substantive Vice-Chancellor of UNIZIK.

A short profile of Ahaneku, which was attached to the release stated that Prof. Joseph Eberendu Ahaneku, FAS, is a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academics for four years under Prof. Egboka’s Administration, and was born on 1st October 1962.

“He obtained his PhD from the University of Ibadan in Chemical Pathology. “He was promoted Professor in 1997.

Professor Ahaneku is a widely travelled scholar, Researcher and scientist. He is married to Dr. Glady Ahaneku, a consultant Cardiologist with five children”.

Since his appointment, several groups from the university, including students’ union, members of the academic staff union have been coming to congratulate him on his appointment.
