Meet Dr. Virginia Ebere Ejiofor - H.O.D Computer Science Dept

 

Dr. Virginia Ebere Ejiofor (Nee Ugokwe) was born in Nnobi, Idemili-South Local Government Area of Anambra State – Nigeria. She attended the All Saints Primary School in Abakaliki- Ebonyi State. After obtaining the First School Leaving Certificate and having performed excellently in the Common Entrance Examination, she proceeded to Girls’ High School, Ezillo (now Special Science School) in Ishielu LGA of the old Anambra State where she obtained her West African School Certificate. Dr. Virgy Ejiofor graduated in First Class Honours in Computer Science from Nnamdi Azikiwe University which earned her automatic employment as a teaching staff. She possesses MSc and PhD both in Computer Science.

Dr. Virgy Ebere Ejiofor had always come top of her class right from primary up to the University level which attracted a lot of prizes and awards to her and so many accolade from the Heads of the various institutions which she attended. She represented Girls’ High School, Ezillo in debates, national quiz competitions, and national sports festival where she excelled in table tennis and basketball. She represented Nnamdi Azikiwe University in various IT Workshops, Seminars, and Conferences which today has brought about a lot of on-line activities in Unizik like AfriHub, Microsoft Academy, Unizik Portal, etc.

Dr. Virgy Ebere Ejiofor is a born exemplary leader. She was the Senior Prefect of Girls’ High School, Ezillo in 1982/83 session, the first and till today the only female President of her Departmental Students Association (NACOSS). During her tenure as President, she demonstrated a very good communication manner with the University authorities that she was used as an example to other Departmental Presidents by the then Vice Chancellor of Unizik, Prof Festus Nwakor. This seasoned leadership character in her attracted the establishment of a quality Computer Software Laboratory that was the envy of many at that time. Dr. Virgy also served as the Financial Secretary II of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) in 1994/95 session. She was the National Vice President of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Alumni Association from May 2008 to 2010. She had served in various University, Faculty, and Departmental Committees in Unizik. She is presently the External Examiner to many institutions of higher learning such as the Department of Computer Science of the Federal College of Education Technical, Umunze-Anambra State; Department of Computer Science, Benue State University, Makurdi; and the Department of Mathematics/Computer, University of PortHarcourt. Dr. Virgy has successfully supervised a lot of postgraduate students at PGD, MSc, and PhD levels. She had served as a resource person to many accreditation visits to polytechnics in Nigeria and has a lot of publications to her credit. She served in the Federal Ministry of Education Committee for the review of IT Education Standards and Curriculum at all levels of Education in Nigeria.

She is an active member of numerous professional bodies within the IT industry. Dr. Virgy was a member of Council of the Computer Professionals (Registration Council) of Nigeria (CPN) under the platform of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) from 2009-2013 . Dr. Virgy is a Fellow of the British Computer Society (BCS) and a Fellow of Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria (ICAN). She is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the Chairman, Education Committee of the Computer Forensics Institute, Nigeria (CFIN). She is presently the Head of Department of Computer Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and the Chairman, Publications, Research and Standards Committee of Nigeria Computer Society. Dr. Virginia Ebere Ejiofor is happily married to Chief Chidozie Lawrence Ejiofor, a Business Administrator and a Lawyer in the making. They are blessed with wonderful and destined children. Dr. Virgy is balanced both spiritually and socially. She is a lover of God and humanity.
