Tragedy: Prof Festus Nwakor is Dead - First Vice Chancellor of Unizik



Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has lost its foundation Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Festus Aghagbo Nwako. He is the first Vice Chancellor followed by Prof. Ejiofor, Prof. Ilochi and currently Prof. Egboka.

Prof. Nwako left his imprint as the university’s pioneer VC and has been immortalised by the naming of the school’s digital library after him.


A notice of his death posted on some Yahoo! communities said his burial has been fixed for March 7, 2014 at his country home, Abagana.
The cause and day of his death were not given in the death notice which described the late Emeritus Professor of Surgery in the university known variously as NAU and UNIZIK as the doyen of the medical profession in Nigeria.
The information quoted family and university sources gave the schedule of funeral activities as follows:
1. Tuesday, 4th March – Fake keep at his Enugu home, No. 4, Anamalu Street, Independence Layout, Enugu.
2. Thursday, 6th March – Funeral Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Independence Layout, Enugu, by 8am. Also valedictory sessions at UNTH 9.30am; Nauth Nnewi 12noon; UNIZIK Awka 2pm; vigil mass at Abagana 5pm.
3. Friday, 7th March – Burial and interment at Abagana.

His body will arrive at Nnamdi Azikiwe University by 10.00am, all school activities will shut down from 10.00am to welcome him and to say a fare well and on Friday, members of academic staffs are expected to go to his home town for his mass and burial services from 10.00am.
 
Nnamdi Azikiwe University Library is named after the first Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Festus Aghagbo Nwako and was formerly opened in 2009. It provides students and scholars access to wide range of reference materials, such as multiple professional encyclopedias, numerous books, and thousands of magazines. It is located at the centre of the school purposely for proximity.

On this point: the probability of C.E.P Student taking their exams on Friday is 50/50 but all C.E.P students are expected to come to school on Friday to avoid missing any exam.
